STOP THE DUST FROM YOUR CONCRETE FLOOR
When you treat your concrete floor with a Floor Skinz sealer or densifier, you will immediately notice less dusting and wear on the floor and the effect will typically increase over time. Bare, untreated concrete will gradually crumble away over time leading to dusting, aging, and even damage to the slab. It is always a good idea to give your concrete floors that extra level of protection, particularly if you want to have to deal with less dust and flaking - especially if it is an indoor floor.
Why Finish Your Concrete Floor With Sealer or Densifier?
- Soaks into the slab and makes your concrete stronger
- Gives concrete a nice smooth finish
- Prevents concrete from “dusting”
- Makes concrete last much longer
- Prevents water damage (acrylic AND URETHANE sealers can also prevent oil damage
Why Finish Your Concrete Floor With Sealer or Densifier?
Many people do not know the difference between sealed and densified concrete floors… and the difference is huge! Both will stop dust, but the similarities end there.
Concrete densifiers are a great choice for residential, commercial, and industrial floors because they not only make your slab stronger, but also add abrasion and stain resistance. They can also be incorporated into a Floor Skinz concrete polishing service. Using a densifier as a sealer is a great low-cost system that not only seals the surface but also hardens the top 1/16 of an inch of your concrete surface. It involves the application of a liquid silicate hardener to the concrete surface, which then has a chemical reaction with the floor. This densification reaction fills in the natural pores and voids in the concrete, and crystalline growth occurs internally. That means that the floor is both hardened and sealed at a deeper level than a typical sealant can reach.
Simply sealing the concrete leaves a typically clear layer of product on the surface, preventing most substances from penetrating into the slab. Because the process only affects the surface, if there is ever any damage to the coating or it wears away, the protection is gone. Applying just a sealer to a concrete floor is a great, cost effective way to add shine and protection to a floor that might not be subjected to much use or damage.
Either option will increase the resilience of your concrete and help prevent damage from exposure to water, salt, or other known substances harmful to concrete.
DENSIFIERS
Densifiers are used to finish or harden concrete. It is often applied right after the slab is cured. It soaks into the concrete 90% and leaves only about 10% on the surface. For optimal protection, industry experts recommend a second, and sometimes third, application of densifier to imbue the concrete with as much product protection as possible. A double densified concrete floor should partially bead water but will not be waterproof. Therefore, oils will still be able to penetrate. A small amount of visible sheen may be seen, but will be almost non-detectable. The densifier penetrates 90% into the slab, therefore will not get worn off unless the slab gets worn down.
