Epoxy Floors vs. Polished Concrete Floors

WHICH IS THE BEST?

This is a question we are asked almost every day. The answer varies depending on what the floor is being used for.  I guess we should start by explaining the difference in how each protects a concrete slab.

  • If the floor is going to be wet or oily, an epoxy will provide a better slip resistant option. It will also keep the oil out of the slab.
  • If the floor is going to be a dry, heavy traffic floor, polishing it may be the way to go.

One extra note to mention: if the floor needs to me “marked,” meaning it needs lines or numbers, an epoxy would be needed to make these stand out and be bright.  Lines in a polished floor can be done with a stain but will be somewhat dull in comparison to epoxy.
